Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, has pledged to collaborate with the Presidential Amnesty Programme to reintegrate the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators who had undergone training in aviation related fields.
Sirika made the pledge when Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh, Special Adviser/Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme visited him on Thursday in Abuja.
He said that the ministry would create a desk for the integrating the ex-agitators who had acquired requisite training in the sector.
According to him, the aviation and other critical sectors of the economy will do everything possible to integrate these ex-agitators into meaningful economic development.
“This critical sector of the economy which is precision-driven has found some of the agitators to have acquired such skills and of course, Nigeria is in dire need of those kinds of skills.
“We will do the best that we can to integrate them back into the sector to show people that when you do good thing you get good in return.
“We are going to create a desk for the purpose of integrating these ex-agitators who have acquired skills that are needed in this sector,’’ he said.
Earlier, Boroh had told the minister that the visit was to seek collaboration on integration of ex-agitators, adding that the amnesty programme was at its critical phase ’’which is integration’’.
He explained that there were no fewer than 30,000 ex-agitators that had been trained in different fields, including aviation-related.
“This is why we have come to the ministry so that we can collaborate and bring our synergy together to see how we can reintegrate these ex-agitators and make them to be better persons in the society.
“We have some who are trained as pilots, some are aircraft engineers, some in communication and other aviation-related fields,’’ he said. (NAN)
